ACADEMIC AWARENESS AWARDS FOR TRUANCY PREVENTION

The King County Prosecutor's Office will be presenting its annual Academic Awareness Awards in recognition of students who overcome difficulties and adversity to make school a priority in life.
Students Taneum Fox of the Kent School District and Lisa Liberman of the Enumclaw School District are top winners of the 2006 Academic Awareness Award for Outstanding Achievement. Fourteen other students will also be receiving Academic Awareness Awards.
The awards ceremony will be held on May 5 at the King County Council Chambers on the tenth floor of the King County Courthouse. The event lasts from noon to 1:20 p.m.
King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng and King County Superior Court Judge Patricia Clark will host the awards ceremony. In addition, Washington State Supreme Court Justice Bobbe Bridge, King County Councilman Larry Gossett and King County Court Commissioner Nancy Bradburn-Johnson will be making presentations on Friday.
In addition, awards for outstanding work in the area of truancy prevention will be given to Bruce Knutson, Director of King County's Juvenile Court Services, and Dawn Nannini, Case Manager for King County Juvenile Court. Knutson is also president of the Association of Juvenile Court Administrators.
Sue Inglis, a registered nurse for the Federal Way School District, will be receiving an award for her outstanding work in truancy prevention.
"We are recognizing all of these individuals for their hard work. Truancy intervention is an investment in our youth and it helps preserve hope and opportunity for our youth," said King County Prosecutor Norm Maleng.
