The King County Prosecutor's Office is assisting in an effort to create public awareness of recent hate crimes directed at the gay community in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood. This will include the release of a poster which promotes personal safety and encourages individuals to avoid an offender and instead call 911. The poster will be placed in various establishments, including restaurants and clubs. A small community resource card matching the poster will also be issued. A news conference is scheduled for Friday, February 1, for the release and distribution of the poster. The news conference will start at 2 p.m. at Kaladi Brothers Coffee, 511 East Pike Street, where King County Prosecutor Dan Satterberg will be joining Jack Hilovsky of the Capitol Hill Chamber of Commerce and Fred Swanson of the Gay City Health Project to discuss the issue of hate crimes in the community. Creation of the poster was a joint effort of the Capitol Hill Chamber, Gay City Health Project and the King County Prosecutor's Office. To view a copy of the poster, click the attached link to the website of the King County Prosecutor's Office. Contact: Dated: January 31, 2008 |
