THESE EVENTS OCCURRED IN THE PAST!
November will be a busy month for Environmental Purchasing events.
On November 9th, the United States Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) WasteWise program will host a national "satellite forum" on recycled product purchasing. The program is geared toward business, as well as government, and will feature King County's very own Environmental Purchasing Coordinator, Eric Nelson, along with others from the public and private sectors. Follow the internet link below to find the host site(s) in your state.
On November 3rd, here in Seattle, an information tradeshow, highlighting vendors of environmental products, will be held for government employees, primarily of City of Seattle and King County.
Buy Recycled - Satellite Forum
On Tuesday, November 9, 1999, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM (Eastern time),
the EPA WasteWise program will present a national satellite forum entitled Buying Recycled: The Real Story about Cost, Availability, and Quality. This free, interactive program is designed to provide businesses, governments and other organizations with insights on ways to purchase quality, competitively priced recycled products. This forum is being presented by EPA's WasteWise program and the Buy Recycled Business Alliance (BRBA), a partnership of the National Recycling Coalition. The forum will feature Richard Keller, a nationally recognized trainer on buying recycled products with Maryland Environmental Service who has conducted over 125 seminars on how to buy recycled products. He will share with the audience suggestions on proven, cost-saving strategies for buying recycled products. Viewers will have the opportunity to call in with questions. Also featured will be representatives from both the WasteWise and BRBA programs:This satellite program will provide viewers with tips on reviewing product specifications and testing procedures, identifying cost-competitive quality products with recycled content, setting up cooperative purchasing, and exploring the feasibility of closed-loop systems. Panelists will discuss how they went about purchasing commonly used items, such as various paper and office products, as well as less frequently purchased items, including construction/remodeling products, retread tires, plastic lumber, and compost.

Environmental Purchasing Program
The King County Environmental Purchasing Program assists County agencies in implementation of King County Executive Policy CON-7-1-2, which requires agencies to use recycled and other environmentally preferable products wherever practicable.
The program assembles information about these products and makes it available to specific agency users who can evaluate them and develop applications in County projects.
These procurement bulletins contain information about the results of product evaluations and other accomplishments of County agencies. We hope this information will help you find ways to use recycled materials in the work of your agency and that you will contact us if we can help you with further information or if you have suggestions.
