Environmental Purchasing Bulletin #57:
King County Environmental Purchasing 2000 Annual Report

PLEASE NOTE:  These bulletins, published since 1997, are historical.  The content is not updated.

Introduction

Congratulations and thanks to all of you who have made this one of the most respected environmental purchasing programs in the nation. This past year, King County's Environmental Purchasing Program was recognized with the 2000 "Recycling At Work - Buy Recycled" Award by the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The program also participated in a national "Government-to-Government: Smart Green Purchasing" Conference in Washington DC, and was a featured case study.

In the past year, King County agencies have spent 3.5 million dollars on recycled and environmentally preferable products. In addition to again increasing King County's level of support of recycled material markets, these purchases also brought $575,000 in savings to County agencies.

Environmental Purchasing Program

The King County Environmental Purchasing Program assists County agencies in implementation of King County Executive Policy CON-7-1-2, which requires agencies to use recycled and other environmentally preferable products wherever practicable.

The program assembles information about these products and makes it available to specific agency users who can evaluate them and develop applications in County projects.

These environmental purchasing bulletins contain information about the results of product evaluations and other accomplishments of County agencies. We hope this information will help you find ways to use recycled materials in the work of your agency and that you will contact us if we can help you with further information or if you have suggestions.
