Thank you to all King County Employees for your great effort and support of waste reduction, recycling, environmentally preferable purchasing and green building that have contributed to King County winning an award from EPA for the third year in a row. In recognition of your continued excellence, this year the EPA named King County to the national Waste Wise Hall of Fame. Out of 1,500 businesses and agencies in the nation that are WasteWise members, only five are in the Hall of Fame, and King County is the first and only government agency in this class.
WasteWise is a voluntary program through which organizations eliminate costly municipal solid waste, benefiting their bottom line and the environment. WasteWise is a flexible program that allows partners to design their own waste reduction programs tailored to their needs.
Annually, the WasteWise program gives awards to companies and jurisdictions that have been successful in implementing and reporting on program efforts. EPA established the "Hall of Fame" to recognize exemplary partners that have made significant contributions to the WasteWise program year after year. To be considered for the Hall of Fame, partners must report significant waste reduction results, win multiple WasteWise awards, and promote the program to other organizations. King County won the Local Government Partner of the Year Award in 2002 and 2003.

Environmental Purchasing Program
The King County Environmental Purchasing Program assists County agencies in implementation of King County Executive Policy CON-7-1-2, which requires agencies to use recycled and other environmentally preferable products wherever practicable.
The program assembles information about these products and makes it available to specific agency users who can evaluate them and develop applications in County projects.
These environmental purchasing bulletins contain information about the results of product evaluations and other accomplishments of County agencies. We hope this information will help you find ways to use recycled materials in the work of your agency and that you will contact us if we can help you with further information or if you have suggestions.
