Environmental Purchasing Bulletin #89:
King County Contract For Remanufactured/New Toner Cartridges

PLEASE NOTE:  These bulletins, published since 1997, are historical.  The content is not updated.

Introduction

King County has been buying remanufactured toner cartridges since 1991. These purchases continue to save the County hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. In fact, we saved over $300,000 last year alone. Every year, more and more ink jet and laser printer cartridges are returned to local companies and remanufactured to meet the same OEM standards as new supplies. This means a continual supply and good prices for customers.

King County Contract for Remanufactured/New Toner Cartridges

King County has awarded a new competitively bid contract to Keeney's Office Plus for remanufactured and new toner cartridges. This contract replaces the one with AMS Laser Supply that supplied us for 13 years.

The new contract includes pricing on 233 items. Keeney's will take back ALL empties. They will reuse or recycle all of these. None will end-up in the landfill. Plus, any requirements that agencies have for new or remanufactured cartridges will be added to the contract as needed.

A copy of the purchase order, terms & conditions, and pricing is available on-line.

Environmental Purchasing Program

The King County Environmental Purchasing Program assists County agencies in implementation of King County Executive Policy CON-7-1-2, which requires agencies to use recycled and other environmentally preferable products wherever practicable.

The program assembles information about these products and makes it available to specific agency users who can evaluate them and develop applications in County projects.

These environmental purchasing bulletins contain information about the results of product evaluations and other accomplishments of County agencies. We hope this information will help you find ways to use recycled materials in the work of your agency and that you will contact us if we can help you with further information or if you have suggestions.
