King County Environmental Purchasing Program
Environmental Purchasing Bulletin #96:
Responsible Purchasing Network

PLEASE NOTE:  These bulletins, published since 1997, are historical.  The content is not updated.

Introduction

Attached, please find the Spring 2006 issue of Responsible Purchasing Update, newsletter of the Responsible Purchasing Network (RPN).

Last year, King County Environmental Purchasing Program staff were asked to serve on the RPN steering committee to help develop a national organization for purchasers interested in finding, specifying and buying socially and environmentally responsible products and services. The RPN is now producing an email newsletter, entitled the Responsible Purchasing Update. Please see below for more information about the network and how to subscribe to this free newsletter.

Responsible Purchasing Network

Located in Washington D.C., and staffed by the Center for a New American Dream, RPN will soon publish an online responsible purchasing resource center, host conferences (both real and virtual) on responsible purchasing, help to identify and establish product standards, work with manufacturers to ensure supply, and advocate nationally for responsible purchasing policies and practices.

This fall we will formally invite you to join the Responsible Purchasing Network as we launch its national membership program. Until then, we encourage you to visit RPN's interim web site, which already contains many responsible purchasing resources.

Environmental Purchasing Program

The King County Environmental Purchasing Program assists County agencies in implementation of King County Executive Policy CON-7-1-2, which requires agencies to use recycled and other environmentally preferable products wherever practicable.

The program assembles information about these products and makes it available to specific agency users who can evaluate them and develop applications in County projects.

These environmental purchasing bulletins contain information about the results of product evaluations and other accomplishments of County agencies. We hope this information will help you find ways to use recycled materials in the work of your agency and that you will contact us if we can help you with further information or if you have suggestions.
