PLEASE NOTE:  These bulletins, published since 1997, are historical.  The content is not updated.

Introduction

he Office of the Federal Environmental Executive (OFEE) publishes "Closing the Circle News" three times a year. Each edition highlights the Federal governments progress toward greening the government required by several federal policies. There are many practical examples in this publication that can be useful for state and local governments, as well as others.

There are specific examples of innovative, creative, and expansive facility actions to further environmental management systems, waste/pollution prevention, sustainable design/green buildings, green purchasing, alternative fuels use and petroleum reduction, and recycling.

Closing the Circle News

The Summer 2006 edition of "Closing the Circle News" is available on the OFEE web site. This edition showcases the winners of the 2006 White House Closing the Circle Awards. For more than a decade, the Closing the Circle Awards have celebrated Federal facilities and individuals for excellence in reducing their use of toxic and hazardous chemicals, eliminating waste, recycling, and purchasing of a variety of products with energy and environmental attributes.

Environmental Purchasing Program

The King County Environmental Purchasing Program assists County agencies in implementation of King County Executive Policy CON-7-1-2, which requires agencies to use recycled and other environmentally preferable products wherever practicable.

The program assembles information about these products and makes it available to specific agency users who can evaluate them and develop applications in County projects.

These environmental purchasing bulletins contain information about the results of product evaluations and other accomplishments of County agencies. We hope this information will help you find ways to use recycled materials in the work of your agency and that you will contact us if we can help you with further information or if you have suggestions.
