King County Salmon Cam![]() In October of 2000 the King County Department of Transportation, the King County Department of Natural Resources & Parks and the King County Executive's Office teamed up with SecureEye, a local high tech camera company, and a private landowner in Redmond to mount a camera above a stream running through the Lake Washington/Cedar/Sammamish Watershed. With the Endangered Species Act listing of chinook salmon and bull trout, salmon recovery is of regional importance. King County Executive Ron Sims initiated the camera project to help raise awareness about the condition of our salmon runs and what King County is doing to protect and recover salmon. The Salmon Cam was a great success, with over 7,200 visits in just the first two weeks! This response, and the high participation in events like the Cedar River Salmon Journey, shows the interest and concern King County residents have for our salmon runs. » Watch a video clip of salmon tussling in the stream (2MB MPEG video file) » Learn more about what King County is doing for salmon |
