Incorporation Background
In December 1996, a group of residents of the Sammamish Plateau notified King County of their intent to begin the process of incorporation. The area they proposed for cityhood is on a plateau above the east shore of Lake Sammamish which acts as the area's western boundary; it is bounded on the east by the Urban Growth Boundary; adjoins Redmond on the north end; and extends south to the north side of Klahanie and Providence Point developments.

On Nov. 3, 1998, voters approved the incorporation of the new City of Sammamish. The city officially incorporated on Aug. 31, 1999.

The accompanying study, Analysis of the Financial Feasibility of the Proposed City of Sammamish, is the result of research by the Washington State Boundary Review Board for King County. This study, prepared by ECONorthwest, finds the City fiscally sound under a wide range of revenues and expenditures.
